I think the most important part, besides the pictures of the experiments on primates and cats, is found in the first paragraph. These experimenters are conducting "basic research" - i.e., they are just surgically altering animals, and pumping them full of chemicals, just to see what happens. Contrast this with "applied research" - where researchers ostensibly believe that these experiments might solve a particular problem or contribute to the cure for a certain disease. (The Nazis did this to human animals.) About halfway down the page: "In a news report about the new brain research institute at the University of Bar Ilan, the institute's director, Prof Moshe Abeles stated: 'I can't say that the monkey is happy, but he doesn't suffer.'" I wonder, if these esteemed scholars are so committed to increasing their understanding of neurobiology, why don't they volunteer to have their heads shaved and tubes stuck through their skulls? Why don’t we do away with the pesky dissertation process for PhD students and simply require them to fully participate in their own important research? Surely they can't be afraid of suffering? Because, according to "Professor" Abeles, the monkey definitely does not suffer.
Really, Israel? Nope, no suffering here. Nothing to see, folks. Move along and ignore the monkey in the torture chair. I mean, shit, we give them grape juice. What else do you fucking people want? Shalom.
